Dear GPRA Members,
If you are all feeling the way I am, I imagine you are wondering “where has this year gone?”. This month GPRA has been busy at GPTAC, talking about the strategic training landscape – medical students, pre vocational doctors and GPs in training. Importantly, we were briefed on the new AMC PGY1 & PGY2 years soon to come into effect. We held our position on appropriate, quality supervision in hospital or in community.
Importantly, this month the GPRA Working Party progressed the review and update of the 2025-2027 National Terms and Conditions for the Employment of GP Registrars (NTCER). Throughout June, GPRA will be liaising with GPSA to negotiate updates to the NTCER from Semester 1, 2025. Stay tuned for upcoming NTCER announcements.
Connecting with your peers in the GP profession can be difficult to do on a day-to-day basis. On 20 November, GPRA will be hosting the inaugural GPRA Alumni Network function in Perth, so save the date (6-8pm, Chairman’s Boardroom, Print Hall). This network aims to support peer to peer connection across our new Alumni membership, and provide opportunities for Fellowed GPs and other Alumni Network members to connect with the future GP workforce – from medical students to established GPs – through education and professional exchanges. I encourage you to complete the survey and indicate how you would like to be involved in the GPRA Alumni Network.
This month, I am pleased to announce the NT scholarship winners for 2024. These future GPs and Fellows’ dedication to improving healthcare in the Northern Territory is inspiring, and these scholarships will support their ongoing efforts to provide high-quality care within the Territory.
The scholarship winners will be formally celebrated in a special awards presentation dinner on Saturday 7 September in Darwin as part of GPRA’s NT Registrar Forum (Sept 6-8 – open to all NT registrars, all pathways).
On a final note, I would like to recognise NAIDOC Week 2024, which is always a highlight in our annual calendar and an important opportunity to celebrate the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, many of whom are GPRA members.
Thank you for your continued dedication and commitment to the field of general practice. I hope your recent exams went well, and we look forward to an exciting second half of the year.
