As the recognised national peak bodies representing GP registrars, GP supervisors and GP training practices, GPRA and GPSA develop and set the National Terms and Conditions for the Employment of GP Registrars (NTCER). The review and update of the NTCER is conducted every two years to ensure the NTCER remains contemporary, and we have now started the review for the 2025-2027 NTCER.
This month my priority will be to progress the review of NTCER together with the GPRA Working Group – thank you to those members who put their hand up to join the group.
GPRA is aiming to complete the review and update the NTCER by July 2024 in readiness for preparations for Semester 1 2025.
As we approach the Federal Budget next month, employment conditions continue to be at the forefront of future GPs, and we continue to push our pioneering 2024-2025 Federal Budget submission aimed at helping communities across Australia get access to more GPs.
The submission includes the establishment of an independent national GP Training Leave Support Fund to solve, once and for all, one of the key barriers to doctors applying to GP training – limited or no access to parental, study or exam leave. This week, we have received further backing from the Medical Benevolent Association of NSW-ACT, who have written to the Federal Minister for Health to officially support our Budget submission.
It’s important we don’t lose a focus on quality training for our future GPs under the pilot employment models. As your peak body, we continue at the jurisdiction level to talk about the Single Employer Model (SEM), and we thank our members for their feedback on SEM. GPRA will continue to input your views and feedback to the pilot designers.
Our 2024 GPRA education events are now in full swing, with a unique networking opportunity for GPs in training to take place in Ballarat next month and a GPRA workshop being held as part of the May Tasmanian Rural Health Conference. Also, GPRA is hosting an Exam Preparation webinar series in May and June to help prepare registrars for exam sitting. Book here.
Thanks for consistently supporting and engaging with GPRA. Let’s keep collaborating to influence the future of general practice.
