FGP Advisors are late-stage GP registrars and early career GPs; they are people who have real experience in the GP training program and in the practice room with patients. They can talk to you, doctor to doctor, about what it is like in general practice.

FGP Ambassadors are your peers working in your hospital as JMOs or GP registrars. They can support you as someone who understands what you are going through, and can help answer any questions you may have.

Meet Dr Osmond

I graduated with a Bachelor of Health Sciences from the University of Adelaide in 2012 and a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from Deakin University in 2016.

Since then I have worked in multiple hospitals across Adelaide before deciding to specialise in General Practice, enjoying the variety and autonomy it provides. Currently working towards Fellowship with the RACGP, and working in Adelaide’s South, my special interest areas include palliative care, paediatrics, women’s health and medical education.

I enjoy the challenges the FGP Advisor role brings, and the unique platform it provides to promote General Practice and advocate for the specialty, especially to junior doctors working in-hospital who may otherwise have little exposure to it.

Meet Dr Bayley

I’m Krishna, a first-year general practice registrar with ACRRM based in Port Augusta/Whyalla. Having grown up in the mid-north, and now running a farming business with my partner it’s the closest I can get to being home during my required hospital year!

Rural general practice has always been where I wanted to end up which was consolidated by some great placements in Jamestown, Clare, Port Augusta and Whyalla throughout my training. I love the variability and flexibility in practice, as well as the ability to become part of the community.

I’m hoping to complete my ACRRM training as well as my Advanced Diploma in Obstetrics before returning home to practice.

Meet Dr Hughes

I’m Jen, a first-year General Practice registrar in Adelaide, working at the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network across the Lyell McEwin and Modbury Hospitals. I love the breadth that a career in General Practice offers – from paediatrics to palliative care, and dermatology to mental health, GPs are across it all. But mostly, I love that a career in general practice means fostering lifelong relationships with your patients, and making a meaningful difference to their holistic wellbeing. My General Practice placements across Whyalla, Port Augusta, and Roxby Downs really enforced to me the transformative power of effective primary care and the ability of a caring GP to advocate not only for their patient, but for the entire community. I can’t wait to start in community General Practice but, for the time being, am excited about developing my hospital skills in areas that I know will be useful as a GP.

Meet Dr Malhotra

Hi, I’m Rahul, a first-year General Practice registrar working at the Riverland Mallee Coorong Local Health Network in 2022, and an eager young doctor wanting to pursue my interests in Rural GP and its various special interests. After initially being eager on the surgical life at the start of medical school, I was soon won over by the huge variety, excitement and challenge of General Practice. I am a keen learner and enjoy being able to learn aspects of acute medical care, chronic condition care, mental health, musculoskeletal and sports medicine and dermatology within the one role, and be able to develop as a diverse and skilled practitioner.

I have been privileged to experience various GP settings including Whyalla, Mount Gambier and metropolitan Adelaide, and am currently based at Murray Bridge, working across GP and Emergency Medicine. I love getting to know my patients and forming longstanding relationships, providing holistic care and advocating for better health outcomes. In the future, I hope to balance my practice in community GP with my interests in anaesthesia and emergency. I will be very keen to interact with other junior doctors like me who are considering this amazing career or just want to get to know more.

Meet Dr Coen

I am a first-year general practice registrar currently working at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

I am an International medical graduate having studied and completed my internship in Ireland. I have been living and working in Australia for almost five years now–mostly in Adelaide–but I also spent six months working in Darwin which was a great experience. I am currently working in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at WCH where I have started my certificate of women’s health with the aim of providing shared care in the community.

I have been working towards a career in GP for the past few years and I am excited to finally start in community next year. As an ambassador, I hope to share my passion for a career in GP and specifically I am happy to provide guidance for fellow IMG’s who hope to pursue GP training.

Meet Dr Kularadhan

Varsh is currently a HMO based at Bendigo Health. Growing up in rural Queensland, and completing medical school throughout the Loddon Mallee Region, she has a strong commitment to rural and regional medicine, and plans to pursue rural generalism in the future.

With a passion for women’s and sexual health, and improving access to such services in this region, Varsh is very much looking forward to starting her career in rural general practice, and hopes she can support medical students and fellow junior doctors in starting theirs.

Meet Dr Donevska

I am an RG registrar with RACGP/AGPT, pursuing an advanced skill in Emergency Medicine at Echuca Regional Health and I have a sincere interest in POCUS in all health care settings.

As an IMG, I’m passionate about lifelong learning and have spent a few years in healthcare education. Since moving to Echuca, I have felt an immediate sense of belonging and I have a lifestyle now that I wish to continue indefinitely. I have the pleasure of working with some of the most incredibly skilled rural GPs who not only run the local hospital but are the vital backbone of the community, and I cannot think of any other medical specialty more noble.

As an FGP Ambassador, I hope to spread the word about the great opportunities that exist in Echuca and help fellow JMOs navigate the process of rural generalist training.

Meet Dr Devkota

I am currently working in Monash Health as Resident Medical Officer (RMO). I am an Overseas Trained Doctor (OTD) with three years of overseas experience. I have worked at Monash Health for more than a year now.

Moving to Australia and pursuing a medical career in a completely different country from where I was trained has been a significant transition. I have learned a lot during this time. I am looking forward to getting into GP training and understanding all the hurdles that an IMG faces before reaching that door.

I am excited to help all my colleagues who want to get into the GP training program and need further information.
