Considering a career in general practice? Book a GPRA hospital session!

If you’re considering a future in general practice – or even if you’re unsure – it’s worth hearing from those who have recently been in your shoes.

GPRA’s Future GP sessions are designed for hospital-based prevocational doctors and provides:

  • Access to impartial information and resources about all general practice/rural generalism training and employment pathways
  • Factual information about General Practitioner/Rural Generalist employment conditions, as well as preparedness for commencing in general practice placements.

Sessions are around 1–1.5 hours and are delivered face-to-face by one of GPRA’s local GP Ambassadors as part of a hospital’s regular medical education program.

The objective is to answer any questions you and your colleagues may have about general practice/rural generalism and help you take the first step to apply for specialist training in primary care.

Over the past 12 months sessions have been held in South Australia and New South Wales, with more planned in Western Australia and the ACT later in 2026.

You and/or your local medical education unit can get in touch if you’d like to see a Future GP session in your hospital!
