Can you please give a brief overview/bio of your career to date?

I completed my MBBS at the University of Queensland (2014–2017) and later attained my FRACGP in 2023.

Beyond clinical practice, I’ve pursued a Master of Medicine (MMEd) from the University of Sydney and an MBA from the Australian Institute of Business and an associate FRACMA (AFRACMA). Today, I wear two hats: I am the Director of Going Medical Group, overseeing my practices, and the Founder of MBS Pro. My career is driven by a mix of clinical and tech interested paired with a passion for the business of general practice.

What is the product/work you are leading?

I am the founder of MBS Pro, an AI-driven platform specifically designed for General Practitioners. The goal is to simplify the complexities of the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS). By leveraging AI, we help GPs navigate billing and compliance more efficiently, ensuring they are fairly compensated for their work while reducing the administrative burden and “billing anxiety” that often leads to under-billing or compliance risks. We also have AI clinic tools such as AI receptionists, document sorters and dashboards

What do you see as some of the enablers and barriers to health innovation in primary care in Australia?

  • Enablers: We have a highly skilled GP workforce that is increasingly tech-literate. The shift toward digital health and the recent willingness to adopt telehealth have opened the door for more sophisticated tools.
  • Barriers: The primary hurdle is the rigid, legacy nature of some of our health systems and the “fear of the unknown” regarding AI and data security. Funding models often lag behind innovation, making it difficult for grassroots, GP-led tech to scale without significant private investment.

What do you think the future of general practice looks like?

The future is “augmented.” I don’t believe AI will replace GPs, but the GPs who use AI will certainly replace those who don’t. We are moving toward a model where the administrative load — documentation, billing, and triaging — is handled by intelligent systems, allowing the GP to return to the heart of medicine: the patient-doctor relationship. We will see more “micro-specialization” within general practice and a much stronger emphasis on practice ownership as a sustainable business model.

Why is it important GPs are involved in health innovation/new technology design?

If we aren’t at the table, we’re on the menu. For too long, software has been designed for us by people who have never sat in a consultation room. When GPs lead innovation, the tools actually solve clinical pain points rather than creating new ones. We understand the nuance of the 15-minute consultation and the complexities of the MBS in a way a developer never could.

What would you say to early career doctors about general practice/primary healthcare?

General practice is the only specialty where you can truly be the master of your own destiny. Whether you want to be a clinical expert, a business owner, a medical educator, or a tech founder, GP provides the flexibility to build a “portfolio career.” Don’t let the negative headlines fool you — being a GP in a rural or regional area, in particular, offers a level of clinical variety and community impact that is incredibly rewarding.
