Meet your new GPRA Registrar Advisor – Dr Shaun Gerschwitz

South Australian Dr Shaun Gerschwitz is our newly-appointed GPRA Registrar Advisor.

Read his story and find out how he’ll be supporting registrars throughout their training journey:

“I grew up in country SA, and completed medical school at the University of Adelaide in 2020, before completing three  hospital years at Flinders Medical Centre and its peripheral hospitals. I found I was interested in everything (except the long hours and instant coffee!), and couldn’t see myself committing to just one sub-specialty. I love that GP lets me do it all and more, whilst letting me continue to guide my patients through their healthcare journey.

“I am currently completing extended skills in an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation in Adelaide, with fortnightly fly-in-fly-out clinics to rural SA towns including Ceduna, Port Lincoln and Coober Pedy. I also work 0.2 FTE as a Registrar Medical Educator with the RACGP.
“I’ve undertaken my GP training both full and part time, changing practice every six months to gain exposure to as many different practices as possible. This has helped me gain an understanding of areas of training and general practice done well, and what could perhaps be done better! On weekends I enjoy hiking and visiting different coffee roasters in search of the perfect brew.

“I’ve relied on a variety of GPRA resources during my training, including the GP Companion (which lives on my desk for quick reference), the NTCER FAQs, and the CCE Exam Prep Series among others. I jumped at the opportunity to get involved and can’t wait to help field enquiries and provide support to registrars in a quandary. I strongly value this role’s ability to provide peer support, recognising the value of my recency.”
