GPRA urges use of COVIDSafe app
General Practice Registrars Australia (GPRA) President Dr Sama Balasubramanian, together with General Practice Students Network (GPSN) National Chair Laura Roden, today endorsed the Department of Health’s COVIDSafe contact tracing app.
“In acknowledging the sacrifices and efforts of all Australians to slow the spread, we also recognise that all Australians must be extra vigilant to protect the health of themselves, their loved ones, and their community. The COVIDSafe app is an important additional measure to help manage the COVID-19 pandemic in Australia,” GPRA President Dr Sama Balasubramanian said.
“We urge everyone to download and use COVIDSafe; the success of the app is dependent on a high uptake in the general population; low participation rates will reduce the app’s efficacy,” Dr Balasubramanian said.
“GPRA is satisfied that the Federal Government has addressed recent community concerns about privacy and security within the design of the COVIDSafe,” Dr Balasubramanian said.
“I encourage all GPRA members to download and use the app, and to encourage their patients, colleagues, and friends to do likewise,” Dr Balasubramanian said.
“As medical students, we are prepared to do everything we can to help stop the spread of COVID-19. Downloading and using COVIDSafe is a small step which we can all take,” GPSN National Chair Laura Roden said.
“In all this, we must remember the health and safety of our healthcare professionals—who are truly on the frontline fighting this pandemic,” Ms Roden said.
“GPRA fully supports the efforts of the Federal Government to protect the health and wellbeing of the Australian population—particularly Australia’s healthcare professionals,” Dr Balasubramanian said.
