  RESOURCES AND ACRONYMS  
All medical specialties love a good acronym: welcome to the General Practice variety!

ACRRM
Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine: Have an alternative curriculum of educational objectives for Rural doctors and offer educational resources and a separate Fellowship process. No examination process finalised to date. Achieving FACRRM does not currently confer Vocational Registration which would allow unrestricted access to level A1 Medicare rebates (ACRRM is in the process of applying for this).

ADGP
Australian Divisions of General Practice – National body which represents the Divisions.

AGPT
Australian General Practice Training (see also GPET). The national General Practice Training program funded by GPET (see below).

AMA – Australian Medical Association
Australian Medical Association – an independent organisation that represents the professional interests of all doctors: including political, legal and industrial interests.

Divisions of General Practice
Federally funded to provide support and educational activities to GPs and local primary care services within their division (local area) e.g. diabetes nurse educator. Find out which division your practice belongs to and join.

DoHA
Department of Health and Ageing: Commonwealth Government Department.

GPET
General Practice Education and Training: National body funded by the DoHA. Tenders out training to RTPs. The General Practice Training Program governed by GPET is known as AGPT (Australian General Practice Training).

GPR
General Practice Registrar

GPS
General Practice Supervisor

GPRA
General Practice Registrars Australia Ltd – Board of eight directors and Advisory Council made up of RLOs from every RTP. Represent GPR issues to GPET, RACGP, DoHA and many other bodies involved in training. Free membership for Medical Students.

IMG
International Medical Graduate. Also known as OTDs – Overseas Trained Doctors. GPRs who are IMGs/OTDs may be subject to the 10 year moratorium.

NGPSA
The National GP Supervisors Association. Represent GP supervisor issues.

RACGP
Royal Australian College of General Practitioners: No longer delivers GP training. Sets the exam, standards for training, curriculum, accredits practices suitable for GP training. Awards Fellowship of the RACGP on successful completion of GP training and the RACGP exam which confers you vocational registration, allowing you unrestricted access to the highest level (A1) of General Practice Medicare
