About me:

Melanie Winter I am a fifth year medical student at The University of Adelaide. I joined the GPSN because I have always had a keen interest in general practice and I feel that it is often overlooked as a specialty in its own right. It was my GP in my home town of Naracoorte, South Australia, who originally inspired me to study medicine with the aim of one day becoming a GP myself. I believe that general practice offers a wonderful balance of stimulating medicine and time for family and leisure, and I am excited to be a part of a network of students with similar interests.

Fun fact:I love to bake sweets (and if you ask nicely I might even give you some recipes!)

Hi! My name is Steph Bond and I'm currently in my fourth year at Radelaide Uni.

I was lucky enough to spend 9 weeks at the start of this year in a rural
location during my surgery rotation and I absolutely loved it. While I
discovered that I was never going to be a surgeon, I also discovered some of the many amazing opportunities available to rural GPs. I met some extremely knowledgeable and multi-talented GPs who helped me to realise the importance of GPs as the primary health carer and the many skills required to be a good GP. Since then I have become involved in the GPSN to try and increase the awareness and respect for GPs from other health professionals.

Stephanie Bond

I’m currently doing fourth year med. I’m originally from Ballarat, but moved to Radelaide for uni. I’m pretty excited about some of the things GPSN is going to be involved in this year. I think there are many important issues facing students and GPs and it’s important that as students, we get to input some of our ideas and strategies. I also think that organisations like this are important to help make other students aware & informed and facilitate ways for them to get involved.
