GPSN National Executive

The GPSN National Executive manages the national operations for the GPSN and represents its members in its dealing with various organisations involved in General Practice.

The National Executive rotates at the end of each year and are selected at the final GPSN Council meeting by the current GP Student Ambassadors for each medical school

2008 GPSN National Executive

Chair:
Joe-Anthony Rotella (University of Melbourne)

Email: gpsn.chair@gpra.org.au

joe rotellaJoe-Anthony (or Joe to keep it simple) has often been 'that guy in med school who gets involved in everything'. Refusing to wallow in the quagmire of mediocrity that final year in medical school can often be, Joe has taken on the dynamic position of GPSN Chair. A GP enthusiast for several years, Joe enjoys being involved in a number of activites whilst occasionally moonlighting as a medical student. Based on the accounts of third-party observers, he requires little to no sleep but manages to smile as much as possible. His other interests include reading, his mum's food, red wine, Scrubs, and observing lemurs in their natural habit in the Madagascan heartlands.

Vice-Chair:
Phoebe McGiffin (University of Queensland)

Email: gpsn.vc@gpra.org.au

phoebe mcgiffinPhoebe is in her final year of medicine in sunny Queensland. Following a fantastic GP rotation last year, Phoebe became very excited about becoming a GP for many reasons, although the opportunity for a great lifestyle was certainly a major drawing card. Phoebe loves travelling and outdoor sports such a skiing and surfing. Good music and a delicious bottle of wine shared with great mates, are also two of Phoebe's true loves. Reading and sleeping however, also rate as favourite activities.

"I hope that as GPSN Vice-Chair I will be able to promote what I love about GP to as many medical students as possible, so that they can see what an awesome career choice GP will be!"

Phoebe

National Secretary:
Raquelle Semrani(Australian National University)

Email: gpsn.ns@gpra.org.au

Welcome to GPSN! I'm Raquelle, a 3rd year student reporting to you from Canberra. This year, not only will I eagerly begin my first clinical year, but I will also endeavour to spread GPSN enthusiasm to the capital. Any spare time I do have will undoubtedly be used to fulfil my great obsession with med, through watching repeats of Grey's Anatomy and Scrubs. I also enjoy travelling, siestas, coffee, reading, and spending lots of time with my family.

GPSN Local Clubs and GP Student Ambassadors

GPSN Local Clubs provide medical students with a local avenue to pursue their interest in General Practice via the GPSN. Anyone can join and get involved whether it is in a formal position or as an enthusiastic participant.

The GP Student Ambassadors are the local representatives for each Australian medical school. They run the local GPSN student clubs in addition to playing a major role in decisions undertaken at GPSN Council. They represent the interests of the GPSN and their local GPSN club both on local and national arenas.

The GP Student Ambassadors are elected by their GPSN local club at the club’s AGM. They can serve one or two year terms (pending approval from their club).

The Executive Officer and Secretary for the local Club assist the GP Student Ambassadors in their role.  Like the GP Student Ambassador, they are elected by their local GPSN club at the annual AGM but serve for only one year.
